a day in history

The United States military is an amazing group of people.  As Ken Shchram put it, "they made good on a promise that two presidents made-that justice would be served".  Today, the men in uniforms have the sole responsiblity and privilege of executing a mission that will forever be remembered.

I distinctly remember visiting  the Vietnam memorial in Washington D.C.   I've grown up in a generation that is a bit detached from the war experience.  I think we lack the respect that our older generations have gained through personal experience and knowledge.  When I was there, I saw people scratching the names of loved ones onto paper, embracing, and also heard stories being told-stories that put faces on the those names engraved in the memorial.  It meant more to me than any reading in history books I had done in school.  It was real-the loss of life.  They did make the ultimate sacrifice and those people standing around me were the ones left behind.

So, today I'm thinking of those select and skilled few that ran into the darkness in Pakistan with a specific goal in mind.  Unbelievable courage.

I can't help but think of my kids and hope that this is one step closer to them growing up in a country that just might be a bit safer.

Thank you.
